Meet Your Doctor

Dr. Michelle Garcia, MD is a board certified family medicine doctor with over 10 years of experience and is the founder of Horizons Direct Primary Care. While she grew up in California, after living in Maine for 11 years, she is proud to call Maine her home. She is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her family medicine training at the Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency in Augusta, Maine.

Dr. Garcia has worked in full spectrum primary care in New England for several years. After fighting for changes within the traditional healthcare system for years to improve patient care, she realized that the problems with the current system are too inherent to be fixed from the inside and decided to seek out a different approach. She learned about the growing Direct Primary Care (DPC) movement in the Portland area and feels confident that this model is the answer to providing the quality of medical care which so many patients are rightfully looking for.

While she loves all aspects of practicing primary care, she has a particular interest in preventative health and lifestyle approaches to chronic disease management. She is also passionate about women’s health, pediatrics, mental health, and palliative care.

In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Garcia loves teaching. She was previously a clinical instructor for Tufts Medical School and received a teaching award from the University of New England Medical School.

When she’s not practicing medicine, she is spending time with her husband, daughter, and Bernese Mountain Dog Bailey. Dr. Garcia has lived in Scarborough for 7 years and is excited to be providing care in her home community.
